Casa Millione wines launched!

Posted on Mar 6, 2013

Four new Spanish wines are being added to the Millione range. The white Chardonnay-Viura, Garnacha Rosé and two reds, Tempranillo and Garnacha, have been specially made for Millione in Navarra in north east Spain. These join the original Italian Frizzante Rosé, made from Raboso grapes in northern Italy.

The new Casa Millione Spanish wines will be officially launched at the Wines of Spain tasting in London on March 21st and have an RRP of £7.99. We hope to get them in the shops later in 2013 and will update this blog in due course. The wines are ‘premium mainstream’ in quality, and are ‘wines for everyone and everyday’. The striking new packaging has been designed by market leading agency Stranger & Stranger who join the list of stakeholders in the project. Both Casa Millione Spanish wines and the Millione Italian Frizzante Rose are distributed by Off Piste Wines.

Cliff, Mike and I created The Millione Foundation in the latter part of 2010 as a social business with the express purpose of making high quality mainstream wines that would meet retailer commercial objectives and consumers taste requirements. All our profits from sales of the wines go to Sierra Leone in West Africa to build community primary schools. Since launch of the original Millione Frizzante Rosé we have raised funds to build four schools. Two have been running for the last year, the third was finished at the end of 2012 and the fourth will be built in 2013.

Thanks to everyone who buys Millione wines and the work of our partners Action Aid we are seeing our vision turning to reality- to enable the poor to take control of their own lives and solve their own problems. Primary education is the first building block in this process. We receive regular updates of the benefits to the children, their families and the whole communities. It is especially good to see the difference it makes to the number of girls being educated – not just going to school but staying on. Some simple things that we take for granted in the UK are life changing for girls in Sierra Leone. A well providing clean, safe water in the school grounds and separate toilet blocks for girls and boys have both been fundamental in providing the health and sanitation they need to be able to attend school.

After a great start with the Italian wine I can’t wait to get listings for Casa Millione, increase our revenues and build more schools more quickly. Beautifully packaged, high quality wines that people enjoy drinking and meet the retailers commercial requirements while giving kids a chance in life they would not have had- what’s not to like?
